Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some questions that some of our recipients ask frequently. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact our kitchen at (440) 333-6298.

When are meals served?

We deliver meals Monday through Friday, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm except on major holidays and during inclement weather. We follow the policy of the Rocky River School District for weather-related closings - if Rocky River Schools close because of weather, then we will be closed also.

What are considered major holidays?

Major holidays include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

What are Blizzard Packs?

Blizzard packs are nutritious non-perishable lunches delivered at the beginning of the winter season for our recipients to have on hand in case meals cannot be delivered because of inclement weather. They are complimentary.

If personal contact is not made with a recipient, what is your procedure?

Our Drivers and Hoppers are instructed to tell our Volunteer Coordinator if the recipient does not answer the door as usual. Our Coordinator will then attempt to contact the recipient again. If they still cannot be reached, their contact person is called to determine if outside intervention is needed. If it is so determined, the Police may be called to check on the person.

How late can I call to cancel meals?

If you wish to cancel delivery of meals for a day or multiple days, please call by 1:00 p.m. on the delivery day before the day/days you wish to cancel. This means that to cancel a meal delivery for a Monday, you would need to call us by 1:00 p.m. on Friday (the previous delivery day).

What is the policy for leaving meals at the door?

Our goal is to provide the freshest, most nutritious meals possible. Therefore, we usually will not leave perishable meals at the door if no one is available to receive them during our delivery time. As an alternative, we can provide a cooler and ice pack for purchase, which can protect your meal for a short period of time while you are away.

Does Meals on Wheels supply food for any special diets?

We do not cater to special diets, as our meal preparation is not overseen by a dietitian; we cannot call a meal “low-salt”, “low-fat”, etc. However, our menu is designed to be healthy and well-balanced with judicious use of salts and fats.

How do I pay for my meals?

Our biller invoices at the end of the month for the number of meals delivered during the prior month. Payment is expected by the 15th of the month. Payment can be made by check - no cash payments please.

What does a recipient do when they want to stop meals for a short time such as vacations?

Please notify us of the day or days you are intending to be away, and an approximate return date.  Since billing is done at the end of the month, your bill will reflect your time off.
